Single piece forging high grade Aerospace steel

Each disc is manufactured from a single piece, premium quality carbon steel forging. When the metal is forged it creates a directional grain flow that follows the contour of the disc which reduces the risk of cracks and catastrophic failure associated with the inferior welded design.

The Highest Technical Standards

APS uses the highest technical standards available in its manufacturing processes, producing a disc with extremely precise tolerances. This ensures correct run-out values which eliminate disc vibrations and ensures improved pad to disc fit for better braking and performance. APS brakes have been tested by demanding dynamometer testing as well as extreme flight testing.

APS's state-of-the-art CNC lathes provide extremely tight tolerances

APS has the capability to maintain extremely tight tolerances with state-of-the-art CNC lathes. When coupled with a well-researched design and extreme testing, the result is a longer-lasting disc with higher performance and greater safety margins.

After machining, the discs are subjected to a proprietary heat treatment process that gives the discs their characteristic appearance. APS brakes are not only aesthetically pleasing but offer enhanced wear characteristics and have a high resistance to corrosion and longer life associated with the thermal cycling experienced in the aircraft braking environment.

The corrosion protection also makes the discs particularly suited for agricultural aircraft that are exposed to harsh chemicals as well as aircraft located in coastal areas and aircraft that are left outside on the ramp full time.

Why you should upgrade your existing brakes to APS "BlackSteel"® discs and linings today?

1. APS brake discs are state-of-the-art CNC machined from one-piece forging

When the metal is forged it creates a directional grain flow that follows the contour of the disc. This allows for a much stronger disc that has a reduced risk of the cracking and catastrophic failures associated with the inferior welded design.

2. APS "BlackSteel" advantage

Our proprietary heat treatment has a two-fold purpose. Firstly, the heat treatment strengthens the steel by bonding the carbon, oxygen and nitrogen in the top layer of the metal. This is not a coating that can wear off. The steel itself is transformed.

Secondly, the heat treatment gives the steel its aesthetically pleasing black appearance and provides a surface with a high resistance to the corrosion and oxidation associated with the extreme thermal cycling experienced in aircraft braking systems. This makes it an excellent choice for agricultural aircraft that work in a harsh, chemical environment, as well as anyone who leaves their plane outside for most of its life.

3. The performance of Kevlar™

APS semi-metallic linings are impregnated with Kevlar® fibers for  optimum performance.

APS metallic linings are constructed from an innovative design and from more durable materials than other brands so you get longer wear and superior stopping power for greater safety.

4. APS discs are a good value

APS discs and linings generally cost less. When you consider the cost savings alongside the longer life, APS BlackSteel® discs and linings are a value you just won't find anywhere else.

5. APS has a high standard of quality

In order to receive FAA PMA certification, APS brake discs and linings must go through a rigorous testing process. All APS brakes must meet or exceed OEM standards. In every case of testing APS brakes exceeded the required standards for performance and reliability. APS discs and linings are dyno tested as part of the PMA approval process.
