The **Alcor CHT Bayonet Style Probe** (P/N **86251**) is a **Type J thermocouple** designed for **cylinder head temperature (CHT)** measurement on reciprocating-powered aircraft. The probe features a **small element diameter** that provides near-instantaneous instrument response and generates sufficient electrical power for **Alcor unamplified instruments**. It is intended for use with **Type J CHT instruments and leads**. Most engine cylinders require the **Alcor Bayonet Adaptor (P/N 28202)** for a secure fit. **Type J** CHT sensors are usually identified by **yellow (-)** and **black (+)** wires. A small number of manufacturers use **red (-) and white (+)** or **red (-) and black (+)**, however **yellow and black** is considered the industry standard.
